Description of Organization

Haemophilia Society of Singapore is a voluntary organisation that was set up in 1985 by a group of people with haemophilia, parents and healthcare providers. It is a member of the World Federation of Haemophilia. It is helmed by a team of volunteers and its main service is to provide subsidies for members’ high treatment costs following bleeding episodes. All funds raised by the Society benefits members directly.

Our Mission: To ensure that every person with haemophilia receives affordable and safe treatment so as to lead productive lives in society.

Our Objectives: To help people with haemophilia to achieve their potential, to look after their welfare, to assist with treatment costs and to promote awareness of haemophilia.

Core Programme: Treatment subsidies, educational talks, parents’ support and fund raising.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

With the funds raised from the YFC 2019 programme, the Society can promote home therapy by organising self-infusion sessions for parents to learn from hospital staff and other experienced parents the art of self-infusion; to set aside some of the funds for “crisis aid” to help haemophilia members facing unexpected financial crises – sudden illness of breadwinner, loss of job etc and lastly, part of the funds can be used to sponsor members to attend the 2020 World Congress organised by the World Federation of Haemophilia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 14 – 17 June, 2020. This Congress is the largest International Meeting for the Global Bleeding Disorders Community and is a great opportunity for our haemophilia members to attend the sessions which would benefit them greatly.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

We welcome these YFC team members to participate in our activities – talks for members, join members when they participate in outings to select places and a pharmaceutical plant. They can also join us for our Charity Film Premiere event and meet other volunteers and members there.

Towards the year end, they can help with some of the Christmas events organised for the haemophilia children by the hospitals.
