Description of Organization

Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA (S)) is a registered charity (Charity Registration No: 01118) and an official Institution of Public Character (IPC). Established in 1993 by Patron and Ambassador-at- large, Professor Tommy Koh, VSA (S) aims to nurture and develop the creative talent of people with disability to empower them through the arts.

Our beneficiaries are aged 5 to 74 years old, with disabilities ranging from physical (e.g. deaf, blind, or wheelchair-bound) to intellectual (e.g. Autism, Down Syndrome or Global Development Delay). As of 2019, we are the only charity in Singapore that accepts and aims to help people with any kind of disability, through multi-disciplinary arts programmes. Since its establishment, VSA (S) has touched per year an average of over 1,000 people with disabilities with our programmes and activities.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

Our core programmes are
– ALERT (Arts in Learning, Rehabilitation and Training), Visual arts programme
– APEX (Arts for Performance and Expression), Performing arts programme
– Words!, Literary Arts Programme
– VOICES (Voice of Individual’s Creative Expressions), Visual, performing and literary arts programmes specially designed for talented beneficiaries
– ALIVE (Arts for Livelihood and Employment), Programme that helps beneficiaries achieve financial independence by tapping on their skills in the arts

The above are the existing core programmes in VSA (S). The funds that are raise through the YFC 2020 will be used to subsidise these programmes which include term lessons, workshops, exhibitions, performances etc. The funds raised will greatly benefit VSA (S) and assist our beneficiaries who have financial constraints to enroll and participate in these programmes.
