Description of Organization

Diabetes Singapore is a Social Service Organisation dedicated to the War on Diabetes.

With the growing diabetes epidemic, we strive to not only provide health screenings and consumables for diabetic patients, but also to educate and bring awareness to the public on how Diabetes can be prevented and well-managed.

Our core services include:

– Provide diabetes health screenings at two of our offices
– Deploy both of our Mobile Health Screening vans all around the island to provide health screenings
– Conduct community programmes to educate and bring awareness on diabetes to the general public
– Bring diabetic consumables to the diabetic community at an affordable cost

Mission Statement
– To raise awareness and to provide education, counselling and support to people with diabetes, their families and the community in order to empower them to lead a healthy and productive life

Objectives
– To provide service to people with diabetes and others interested in diabetes
– To undertake activities that promote the general well-being of people with diabetes or are at risk of diabetes
– To strive to remove prejudice and ignorance concerning diabetes.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

As the majority of our expenditure goes into providing health screenings, the funds raised will mainly be used to cover the costs for providing such screenings, and the costs of nurses.

Our health screenings are provided through our two locations located in Jurong West and Boon Keng, as well as our two mobile vans.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

Through my experience leading YFC teams in my previous organisation, I will need to show them our operations and how we help the needy diabetic community.

That will include visiting our offices and mobile vans during operations. We will also need to share and educate them on diabetes matters, such as the different types of diabetes, how diabetic patients manage their conditions and how proper management will enable diabetic patients lead a good lifestyle.
