Description of Organization

The Nature Society (Singapore) or NSS is a non-government, non-profit organisation dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore, Malaysia and the surrounding region.

Formed in 1954 as the Singapore branch of the Malayan Nature Society, the name was officially changed to Nature Society (Singapore) in 1991.

Run by volunteers, the Society depends financially on contributions from its members as well as companies, institutions and individuals.

Past successes include the conservation of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and the successful adoption and restoration of Kranji Marshes into a freshwater marshland habitat to support related birds and other associated wildlife.

NSS is the country partner of BirdLife International as well as a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Global Compact Network Singapore.

We have been awarded the Charity Transparency Award every year since its inception from 2016 to 2019 as well as the Charity Governance Award 2016 by Charity Council.
