Description of Organization

The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) is the national sports body for the disabled in Singapore. It is a voluntary organisation registered with the Commissioner of Charities. Our mission is to transform the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) through sport, while our vision is to build a vibrant and inclusive community where persons with disabilities can pursue their sporting aspirations. SDSC is committed to be the national body representing and advocating SPORTS for Persons with Disabilities (PWD).

The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) is the only organisation in Singapore which reaches across all disability groups, offering a wide range of sports at both elite and non-elite levels. It is, in fact, Singapore’s national disability sports organisation. SDSC firmly believes in the rehabilitative and therapeutic value of sports and holds the guiding principle that “Disability Must Never Disqualify”.

Thus, SDSC aspires to provide the disabled with opportunities to train, participate and excel in sports for local, regional and international competitions; to enhance the lifestyles of the disabled and integrate them into the community through recreational sports and activities; and to increase public awareness of and promote widespread support for the sporting and recreational needs of the disabled community in Singapore.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

As a charity and Non-Government Organisation, SDSC is dependent on the generous contributions of members of the public and corporations to advance our cause. The amount raised will be used to fund regular coaching programmes and equipment for PWDs to engage and experience sports at both elite and non-elite levels, to help them live fulfilling and independent lives.

For elite athletes, these funds will also contribute to their training and participation in major competitions and major games overseas. As representative of athletes with disabilities and organisations serving PWDs, the funds raised will also fuel education and outreach activities for the public to increase awareness about disability sports.
