Description of Organization

The Restroom Association (Singapore) is the only VWO improving the welfare of low-wage cleaning attendants, we organise tribute meals and present grocery vouchers to cleaning attendants. We also provide funding for preschools and schools to organise activities to recognise them. Selected teams can opt to raise funds and then organise a carnival or activity to appreciate cleaning attendants and educate the public.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

Funds raised will be used to purchase grocery vouchers and organise appreciation activities such as tribute lunches for cleaning attendants.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

In 2008, the son of a restroom cleaning attendant wrote to Straits Times urging for higher wages. He shared that his father’s monthly pay of 0 in 1995 was barely enough to support the family and 13 years later in 2008, his basic pay was 0. Be a SaniGiver – give your time in volunteering – to recognize our fellow cleaning attendants! The main challenges they face are long working hours and dirty toilets left by inconsiderate users. Volunteers will be invited to communicate with cleaning attendants when we conduct toilet audits to better understand their work. They also have the option of checking toilets to better appreciate the effort of cleaning attendants.
