Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes 2020: We are going online!

This year’s Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes (YFC) programme is truly special because the challenge of COVID-19 impacts not only our daily lives but the lives of those in the social service sector. Since 2003, the YFC programme has been working with youth, mentors and social service agencies (SSAs) to meet the unmet needs of SSAs through social innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit.

2020 will not be business-as-usual. Society needs us to rise up to the occasion and innovate to create positive social impact in new and meaningful ways.

Therefore, the YFC programme will be conducted digitally this year. This is to minimise close contact and safeguard the health of all involved, including students, staff, volunteers and organisers.

Project Scope: Going Online
  • Advocacy and Fundraising: To be conducted online, until further notice
  • Engagement of SSAs, mentors and volunteers: To take place online as much as possible
  • Scoring Guidelines: To factor in creativity in navigating COVID-19 measures, along with meaningful impact on SSAs. There will also be a new important scoring criterion, where SSA’s will evaluate their teams’ projects and conduct.

  • Selection Interview (Conducted online): Saturday, May 16

Commitment to support SSAs in this difficult time

By empowering youth and volunteerism, we support social service agencies (SSAs) in Singapore to make a meaningful difference.

While Citi Singapore and YMCA of Singapore recognises the severity and challenges of the current COVID-19 situation, it has also caused an increased urgency for supporting SSAs in reaching out to those in need. We are determined to give a helping hand through the Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes programme, a unique platform that benefits the community through youth empowerment.

To safeguard the health of all involved in this programme, YFC 2020 will follow advisories and guidelines by local authorities and implement relevant precautionary measures. These include movement restrictions and social distancing.

Even so, YFC participants have proven time and again that they have what it takes to rise above difficult circumstances and achieve new heights. We firmly believe that YFC 2020 participants can continue to bring a positive impact through their creative methods of overcoming these new challenges. We highly encourage students to consider how the conceptualisation, coordination, and execution of their advocacy and fundraising efforts can be taken online.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to an exciting YFC 2020 journey with all of you!
