Description of Organization

1.1 Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC) is the charity arm of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society. The goal of THKMC is to help anyone who needs help with full respect to their race, colour, creed, language, culture and religion.

1.2 Since October 2011, THKMC was incorporated as a charity with an IPC status to provide multiple social and welfare services to the community at large.

1.3 With its mission “To serve mankind”, THKMC provides assistance to the various groups in our community through more than 60 programmes and services for the elderly and the sick, families, persons with disabilities, and children.

1.4 In 2017, THKMC Family Services Division started Project Y.O.U. The primary purpose of Project Y.O.U is to support youth with high-risk, marginalised conditions, by emphasising positive youth engagement and eventually leading to the development of leadership skills. In addition, youth-oriented collaboration, i.e. honouring youth voice: bottom-up process for youth, encourages youth’s energy and motivation to stay involved over time. Moreover, research had indicated that the strategic use of youth leadership with the support of community partner, such as THKMC, has been identified as an essential contributor in facilitating social/systems changes in order to more effectively inspire and support marginalised youth who are at high-risk of a variety of life challenges.

1.5 In addition, by creating a platform for youths from various background to interact with one another, stimulate various learnings and perspectives sharing amongst the group.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

2.1 Aligned with THKMC’s mission, the funds raised will primarily be used to facilitate and operate ground-up activities which the group of youth are passionate to advocate for, i.e. to make a meaningful change in people’s life. For sustainability, the funds can also be used as start-up funds in contribution to develop more youth leaders continuously. The purpose is to develop like-minded youths who are confident, positive and motivated in the society and are driven in wanting to contribute back to the community.
