Description of Organization

Cycling Without Age (CWA) Singapore is a charity that seeks to help seniors combat social isolation by enabling them to stay connected to the community through free trishaw rides. These trishaws are brought out by specially trained pilot volunteers, who engage with the seniors through storytelling and enjoying nature as they cycling through the parks and shared pathways in Singapore. CWA Singapore also actively engages the different sectors of the community to raise awareness of the challenges of social isolation in seniors. We do this by running aging simulation and communication training to build empathy for our seniors. Apart from this, we have training programmes on longevity and caregiver wellness, and we aim to build a more supportive ecosystem for the seniors through them.

OUR VISION is a world in which no senior faces social isolation, and has the opportunity to feel the wind in their hair.

OUR MISSION is to give seniors the chance to feel a part of society. We give them the right to wind in their hair, the right to experience the city and nature close up from the bicycle and the opportunity to tell their stories in the environment where they have lived their lives. We build bridges between generations and reinforce trust, respect and the social glue in our society.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

Cycling Without Age Singapore does not receive any governmental support so we are always looking for long term corporate partners who can support us in delivering on our mission. With the funds raised with the YFC 2020 programme we can give more seniors a free trishaw ride and let them feel the wind in their hair again. We will train new volunteers to become trishaw pilots and spread our vison all over Singapore.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

As a volunteer for Cycling Without Age you will get trained on the trishaw so you can go for a trishaw ride and get to know the seniors. Currently our trishaws are parked at 8 nursing homes and senior activity centres so there are enough opportunities for you to cycle. You can also join our Aging and Communication Skills training. During this training you will learn more about what it feels when you age, we give you some tips and tricks in communication with seniors and debunk existing stereotypes about seniors. We will invite you over to our office to get to know the CWA team and see what we do all day. We have an open mind so if there is anything else you would like to participate in, we are more then happy to try and make this possible. We hope to meet you soon!
