St John’s Home for Elderly Persons
Description of Organization
Established in December 1958, St. John’s Home for Elderly Persons is a Sheltered Home for elderly persons who are ambulant and aged above 60. We are a Registered Charity and an Institution of a Public Character (IPC).
Our Mission is to provide shelter and care to meet the physical and spiritual needs of elderly persons who have no home and no children or close relatives with adequate resources to care for them.
The Home is open to all regardless of race or creed.
Intended use of funds through the YFC 2022 programme
To improve the lives of our elderly residents, we built a new 5-storey building with larger space, more and better facilities, equipped with the latest technology to provide optimal care and services for our residents.
We anticipate financial challenges with the introduction of these new facilities and technologies as well as the increase in the number of residents. Each elderly resident requires ,900 to upkeep every month, our Home subsidies this cost for our residents as they are not able to afford the full amount. The funds raised will provide financial assistance for our residents and ensure that every elderly who is in need of our care and service gets the full support.
Engaging and involving the YFC participants
Our Home will conduct orientations to the YFC participants for a better understanding of our Home and elderly community to aid you in carrying out the fundraising initiatives. A representative from St John’s Home will provide guidance and support throughout the project implementation.
Currently, in person volunteering are suspended due to Covid-19 advisories for elderly homes. We are open to virtual volunteering where the YFC participants can plan and organise activities to engage our elderly remotely. However, with the easing of Covid-19 regulations, we look forward to welcome physical/in person volunteering to our Home when the situation permits.
At the end of the project, we are more than glad to provide acknowledgement letters or testimonials for the participants.
