Description of Organization

New Life Stories (NLS) is a Singapore-based non-profit dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration by supporting children and families of incarcerated individuals. Their mission focuses on preventing reoffending, improving quality of life, and fostering community inclusion through education, mentorship, and family-strengthening initiatives. Key programs include in-care support to help incarcerated parents maintain bonds with their children, the Learning Friends volunteer befriending initiative providing academic and emotional support to affected children, and peer support groups for caregivers. NLS also promotes community inclusion through enrichment activities and skill-building workshops while collaborating with partners to support reintegration efforts and reduce recidivism. By equipping families with resources and fostering resilience, NLS aims to create a nurturing environment that enables sustainable, long-term social mobility.

Intended use of funds through the YFC programme

New Life Stories (NLS) will utilize funds from the YFC 2025 – Breaking Barriers, Building Futures campaign to strengthen the Learning Friends Programs and Befriender Engagement & Experience. The funds will support learning journeys, library visits, and birthday celebrations to create meaningful connections for children. Additionally, they will cover transportation for accessibility, develop resource kits, and enhance capacity-building efforts to equip befrienders with the skills and support needed to foster a strong community of care. Through these initiatives, NLS aims to empower children, enrich their learning experiences, and create lasting change in breaking the cycle of incarceration.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

To inspire passion among YFC volunteers, we will invite them to your center for an onboarding session to introduce the organization’s mission, programs, and beneficiaries.

Engage them in organizing activities such as Learning Journeys or Celebrations and offer opportunities to support befrienders or staff in various programs. Create reels or edits after each program or fundraising effort as part of publicity to showcase and promote the work being done.

Involve them in planning and promoting events, including fundraising for caregivers’ products like baked goods or jewelry.

Additionally, allow them to use your space for their own fundraising efforts.

Finally, provide clear responsibilities and foster a sense of community through regular check-ins and team-building activities to strengthen their connection to the cause and encourage long-term commitment.
