Beyond Social Services
Beyond Social Services is a charity dedicated to helping children and youths from less privileged backgrounds break away from the poverty cycle. We provide guidance, care and resources that enable families and communities to keep their young people in school and out of trouble.
We do it by:
Community Engagement – We build relationships with youths, engage them in community activities and hook them up with community resources.
Nurturing Restorative Neighbourhoods – We nurture a conducive environment that helps youths stay on the right track but if they fall off, get back on their feet.
Community Partnership – We are the facilitators for volunteers and the wider community to positively contribute to the lives of disadvantaged youths.
Intended use of funds through the YFC 2019 programme
We educate and care for disadvantaged children, promoting education as a focal point while actively involving parents/caregivers. We help children strengthen their English and relevant literacy skills to get them up to speed with their age-appropriate literacy level.
We reach out to children aged 6 to 12 years old to provide them with educational support and activities that strengthen their ability to learn. These include outings, structured interest groups and individualised tuition. The aim is to make learning fun & exciting thereby helping children to rediscover the joy of learning.
Sports plays a vital role in the development of children and youth. It helps them grow, builds physical fitness, confidence and resilience. Children who play sports are less open to negative influences which may lead to delinquent behaviour. Participation in sport also contributes to academic success. In partnership with professional football coaches, Beyond conducts regular football coaching programmes for youth in all our neighbourhoods. We help pay the fees for coaching, venues and equipment as well as provide the children with jerseys and boots.
We endeavour to identify and train youth leaders from the many young people we work with. We believe that the best leaders and mentors can be nurtured from within each community we serve. We therefore, provide opportunities for leadership development through workshops, activities mentoring and supervision. The aim is to raise youth leaders with good values and encourage them to be positive role models in their communities.
Engaging and involving the YFC participants
Often, the most valuable gift is your presence. There’s nothing quite like the joy you’ll get from helping those in need and being part of their community.
You can volunteer to run an activity for children, share a skill or hobby, host an event or simply listen to and help guide one of our youths. There are many other ways you can contribute, so have a chat with us and we can figure it out together.
Come join us in serving over 10,000 households that we have reached out to. We’d love to have you on board.
