Description of Organization

Established since 1981, Care Corner Singapore is a non-profit organisation that has 33 service centres island-wide. For more than 38 years, the organisation has been serving the isolated and disadvantaged in Singapore through our extensive services, such as helping families in need, youths at-risk, special needs children, children from low-income families, seniors and counselling needs.

In FY2018/2019, Care Corner Singapore supported 14,486 direct service users and reached out to over 30,600 individuals through our various programmes and community outreach with the help of our 1,750 selfless and amazing volunteers. Care Corner Singapore received the Charity Transparency Award from Charity Council from 2017 to 2019.

Care Corner Seniors Services aim to support vulnerable seniors to age well in place in the community by ensuring that they are physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually, vocationally and intellectually engaged.

Intended use of funds through the YFC 2023 programme

The funding will be used on our Senior Activity Centre (SAC) programmes and Personal Mobility Support Equipment, such as walking sticks (with self-standing base) and knee guard/knee support.

Care Corner Senior Activity Centres aim to widen and strengthen the community network of vulnerable seniors by introducing seniors to centre activities to prevent social isolation and conducting active outreach to seniors in the community. We also strive to improve the quality of life of vulnerable seniors and integrate them better in society by promoting active ageing and creating opportunities for them to learn new skills and to contribute back to the community through volunteering.

Engaging and involving the YFC participants

Care Corner Senior Activity Centres are happy to host the YFC teams and bring them on our outreach rounds. From there, they will be able to see and understand the lives of seniors living on their own. We can also invite seniors to share their testimonials of joining the SAC and how it has benefitted them.

1. Block parties (7 SACs and 2 Active Ageing centres)
Block parties, organized on a regular basis, e.g. once every 2 months month or every quarter, are a good way to draw seniors out of their homes. Dining together is an ideal way to allow the seniors to meet one another to chit chat and not just a “Hi and Bye” at the corridor.

The parties need to be held at the nearby link halls/pavilions so it is more accessible than coming to the centre. We can alternate between a weekday and a Sat morning so seniors who work on weekdays can also attend.

We will need volunteers to set up games booth for the seniors.

2. Outings for seniors with mobility issues, e.g on wheelchair, visually impaired
Outings are often planned for seniors who are mobile. Seniors who are on wheelchair will need a handicap van to bring them out. We would like to bring back their joy of being able to go places despite their immobility. We can plan for 4 outings for this group of seniors each year.

Venues include: Botanical Gardens, Garden By The Bay, Chinatown, Geylang Serai, Tekka Centre/Little India, SEA Aquarium, Zoo, Supermarket shopping (@ Giant Tampines) etc

We will need volunteers to chaperon the seniors on these outings.
