Project Ubuntu

Project Highlights
  • Mission to form an inclusive society by diminishing stereotypes and improving understanding of the predicaments of the disabled.
  • Secured a sponsorship from Timbuk2 in the form of bags. They then connected with the art group, Band of Doodlers’, to create its designs. These bags were sold as Limited Edition in various retail stores.
  • Sold tote bags designed by beneficiaries from IMH and SAMH, as well as students from ITE West College, National Junior College, Shuqun Secondary School and Raffles Design School. This represents a sustainable social enterprise business model, where beneficiaries are empowered with a viable income stream.
  • Organized an art exhibition at Artist’s Night Out and 2 outreach art workshops to raise awareness of various art charities.

Team Reflections

This journey has been nothing short of tenacity, adventure, faith, hope and love. You really don’t know how far you can go, until you risk travelling far. Looking back, all the challenges we’ve faced indeed happened for a reason and we are grateful for that. What kept us going on was that we love what we are doing and we roped in the help of the community. We can’t emphasize enough of the strength in numbers, especially when it comes to giving back to the society. Lastly, we would like to leave a quote: As far as regret, I think that’s the sign of a well lived life. If I grew old without having regrets, I’d regret my caution.
